Being a part of a vibrant and caring Christian community is an essential part of a young person's faith development. At. St. Paul's we have youth programs for elementary, middle school, and high school age youth. All of our youth programs at St. Paul's have four central areas of focus:
SPY activities take place throughout the year, ranging from afternoon youth group time, outings, and local service projects to weekend retreats. All our middle and senior high youth are also invited to participate in the SC Synod's LCY (Lutheran Church Youth) activities. Every three years, our high school youth go to the ELCA Youth Gathering, held in various cities across the US. In 2015, we are travelling to Detroit, Michigan where we will join over 30,000 other Lutheran youth and adult leaders for a week of celebration, worship, learning, and serving together.
GraceWorks is a week-long youth servant discipleship camp created to connect the gifts and passions of youth from area Lutheran churches with the needs of social service agencies in our local community. Through GraceWorks, connections with local agencies have grown into significant partnership relationships as these agencies have become the mission sites for the program. St. Paul's is one of the pilot congregations that helped to create GraceWorks and serves as one of two host congregations. In 2014 GraceWorks brought together fifty youth from eight congregations from the Midlands area to spend a week of worshipping, serving, and learning together. GraceWorks 2015 will take place this June and will double the number of youth participants and agencies served.
